It's worth noting that there are two versions of the ROG Ally (2023) and they are completely the same except for the processor. One of them features an AMD Z1 processor and sells for $499.99 while the other has a more powerful Z1 Extreme and sells for $699.99.

Z1's CPU has six cores and twelve threads, while its Radeon-integrated GPU has four compute units. The Z1 Extreme's CPU boasts eight cores and sixteen threads with a Radeon-integrated GPU of twelve compute units. Regarding speed, the 3DMarks's Fire Strike for Z1 reached 1478, while Ally Z1 Extreme scored 2245.

Is the ASUS ROG Ally Z1 (non-extreme) worth picking up? In one word? Yes, the ASUS ROG Ally Z1 is worth picking up. If you don't want to drop $600 on the Z1 extreme like me, $400 is a much more appealing price point for a handheld that will get limited use between my Xbox Series X and gaming PC.

But unlike the Steam Deck, which only offers upgrades to storage and the option of an LCD and OLED model, the ROG Ally comes in two flavors, with varying CPU and GPU performance: the $600 ROG Ally Z1 and the $700 ROG Ally Z1 Extreme.
