The adjutant general heads the adjutant general's corps, an administrative service that publishes all army orders; is responsible for army correspondence; and oversees personnel actions, records, decorations and awards, publications, postal service, recreational activities, and career guidance.

The adjutant general shall act as military chief of staff to the governor and as the commanding general of all branches of the militia.

Major General Richard “Dwayne” Wilson currently serves as the Adjutant General. Previously, he worked as the Assistant Adjutant General and the Director of the Joint Staff for the Georgia National Guard, Chief of Staff for the Georgia Army National Guard, and other senior leadership positions.

Adjutant General Service is an indispensable functional component of the Office of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It was created by virtue of the National Defense Act, otherwise known as Commonwealth Act # 01, approved on 21 December 1935 (which is also a law creating the Philippine Army).
